The awards show included performances by Rosalia, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Ozuna & more.

Earlier this year, Ozuna made history by becoming the single biggest finalist in the history of the Billboard Latin Music Awards with 23 nods in 15 categories. And on Thursday night, during the live telecast of the awards show on Telemundo from the Mandalay Bay Center in Las Vegas, the Puerto Rican star made history again: He took home 11 awards, including the coveted artist of the year prize, and became the biggest winner in a single year in the history of the awards.

Ozuna also won Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, male, and top Latin albums artist of the year, male, while “Te Boté,” the hit ensemble song on which he shares the spotlight with Casper Magico, Nio Garcia, Darell, Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny won three awards, including Hot Latin Song of the year.

The 2019 awards, on the heels of Latin music’s most successful year in recent memory, highlighted the dominance of urban music in the Latin marketplace. Following Ozuna in sheer number of wins were friends and fellow Puerto Ricans Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny, with five and four awards, respectively, three of those for “Te Boté,” which also won streaming song of the year and Hot Latin Song of the year, vocal event. Nicky Jam’s feature in J Balvin’s “X” also garnered him airplay song of the year and Latin rhythm song of the year, while Bad Bunny won social artist of the year.

The coveted award for artist of the year, new, went to Anuel AA, who competed in the category against girlfriend Karol G.

But pop and regional Mexican music also had their moments. Latin fans’ appetites for the new was apparent in CNCO’s three wins, including Latin pop album of the year for their self-titled set and Latin pop artist of the year, duo or group. Regional Mexican powerhouse Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga received three wins for the coveted Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, duo or group; Top Latin Albums artist of the year, duo or group; and Regional Mexican artist of the year, duo or group.

Artists winning two awards each included Shakira for Top Latin Albums artist of the year, female, and Latin pop artist of the year, solo; J Balvin, whose single “X” won airplay song of the year and Latin rhythm song of the year; and Romeo Santos, who won Tropical artist of the year, solo, and Tropical song of the year for “Sobredosis.”

The awards show, produced by Tony Mojena and Ants TV Production with Telemundo, was a night of premieres and collaborations.

Anuel and Karol G, who have been touring Latin America, performed together on television for the first time, while J Balvin joined good friend Rosalia and El Guincho in the TV premiere of “Con Altura,” and also premiered “Contra La Pared” with Sean Paul

Marc Anthony premiered his new single, “Parecen viernes,” while Ozuna and DJ Snake performed their global hit “Taki Taki.” Other highlights included Romeo Santos joining his group Aventura for “La demanda,” while Luis Fonsi, Sebastian Yatra and Nicky Jam also premiered their new single, “Date la Vuelta.”

This year’s Lifetime Achievement winner was Juan Luis Guerra, who was feted in a medley of hits by Pedro Capó, Fonseca and Kany García

The 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards were the culmination of the annual Billboard Latin Music Week. Finalists and winners were determined by the actual sales, streaming, radio airplay and social data that informs Billboard‘s weekly charts during a one-year period from the rankings dated February 3, 2018 through this year’s January 26 charts.
